A different kind of work
Before television, Jorge Barbosa studied architectural design and worked at an engineering firm in Chicago. His route into journalism was a change of direction, rather than a childhood ambition neatly fulfilled. WCIU-TV Channel 26 became the starting point of his broadcasting career.
The responsibility behind the camera
Univision’s 2018 career retrospective returned to that decision and to the emotional difficulty of reporting on September 11. Together, those moments reveal two sides of his professional life: choosing a new calling, and carrying its responsibilities through events that were painful to describe.
A Chicago story
The transition to WGBO in 1995 opened a long chapter at Noticias Univision Chicago. By his August 2018 departure, Jorge’s career connected the early Channel 26 newsroom with more than two decades of Spanish-language evening news at Univision.
